With his latest release, guitarist Mason Razavi explores the classic organ combo tradition through a fresh lens, offering a mix of engaging originals and familiar standards. Razavi’s writing respects the roots of the genre while incorporating subtle, modern elements that breathe new life into the classic guitar/organ sound. The standards bring a sense of familiarity and balance to the album’s mix of swinging, bop-inspired energy and reflective melodicism. Razavi’s lyrical guitar is at the forefront, with melodies often doubled by master saxophonist Charles McNeal. They’re joined by rising organist Brian Ho and veteran Bay Area drummer Jason Lewis. The ensemble delivers a memorable listening experience filled with melodic charm and intricate yet accessible improvisation.
